Specialty chemicals are blends of two or more chemicals manufactured to produce a solution with a specific function. In the United States, the specialty & fine chemical business generates over $250 billion in revenues. This has been a passion of mine since the mid-1980s when I first wrote a research report on rubber processing chemicals.

The annual data upon which the monthly and quarterly data are derived are more detailed. Depending on the specialty chemical segment this could range up to 90 individual products and additive types.
